Although we were riding in a big bus, the traffic in Kathmandu was nerve-wracking — motorcycles and buses brushed past each other with barely any space, enough to make anyone break into a cold sweat. Traffic lights are few, and many don’t even work, so everything relies on traffic police.
In 2025, Kathmandu recorded about 75 traffic accidents per day with 7 fatalities. Compared to Kuala Lumpur’s 2,880 daily accidents and 714 deaths, the numbers are indeed much lower. It’s said that people here drive more cautiously.
