The Vesak Day blessing water ceremony brought everyone back from the virtual world to reality.
Those who were touched by the blessed water received it with joy and faith, believing it to be a symbol of blessings, good fortune, and auspiciousness. For a moment, the dopamine rush shifted—from chasing “likes” on a screen to the simple happiness of being sprinkled by the sacred water. The experience reminded us to reconnect with the present moment, with one another, and with the spiritual values that truly nourish the heart.
The float procession passing through the night streets of Kuala Lumpur was truly beautiful.
Many Indians received the blessed water with great reverence and respect. Some even rushed forward enthusiastically to be sprinkled by it. Amid the busy traffic and bustling roads, their eagerness was both touching and nerve-racking, leaving us holding our breath at times for fear of their safety. Their sincere devotion, however, was deeply moving to witness.
Night falls over Kuala Lumpur. Neon lights shimmer, skyscrapers tower above, and streams of traffic flow endlessly through the city. The city never seems to stop moving; everyone is racing against time, chasing dreams and responsibilities of their own.
Amid this vibrant nightscape, a Vesak float slowly makes its way through the streets. The golden Buddha image stands serenely, creating a striking contrast against the dazzling lights around it. One represents speed and constant pursuit; the other reminds us of stillness and inner reflection.
As the blessed water is sprinkled over the crowd, I see people instinctively reaching out their hands, their faces lighting up with joy. Some stand with palms joined in reverence, while others eagerly make their way through the crowd just to receive a few drops of the sacred water. In that moment, regardless of race or background, everyone shares the same heartfelt wish—for peace, happiness, and blessings.
It suddenly occurs to me that what modern people truly long for may not be more information or more entertainment, but a sense of inner peace.
The Buddha was born into this world, and Vesak should not remain only within the walls of temples. Tonight, the Buddha enters the city; and the weary, busy, and anxious hearts of the city receive a moment of coolness and relief as the blessed water falls upon them.
May the lights of this night eventually fade, but may the kindness, compassion, and wholesome thoughts awakened tonight remain in people’s hearts for a long time to come. 🪷🙏✨
On the night of Wesak Day, it feels as though one can glimpse the pure land within. For a brief moment, we step away from wars, away from disputes, and away from the constant tug-of-war of the virtual world. The floats pass by, and we snap a photo; the holy water is sprinkled, and we feel a surge of joy. It turns out happiness can be so simple: just fully living in the present moment.” 🪷🙏🌕✨
