–1 Reached the top!!! Khunjerab Pass, at an altitude of 4,693 meters (15,397 feet), around 5 degrees Fahrenheit below zero, higher than Mount Kota Kinabalu, breaking my own record for the highest point I’ve reached. The bone-chilling wind made us want to huddle for warmth, and the slight effects of altitude sickness made us not want to linger. I wonder if the great masters from about 1,600 years ago felt the same as I do now. This is the border between Pakistan and China. The westernmost city of China is Kashgar. Took a group photo with my teammate Boon An after successfully reaching the summit. —1

图中是中国迷队友--Ang This is the old silk road. The highway is one of the highest paved roads in the world, passing through the Karakoram mountain range, at near Khunjerab Pass. Due to its high elevation and the difficult conditions under which it was constructed, it is often referred to as the Eighth Wonder of the World.1000people die due to the construction!!!
The Silk Road in Pakistan will bypass it.
When people from Malaysia meet fellow countrymen, they always greet each other with great excitement and warmth. They come for the beautiful scenery and the convenience of halal food.
The ancient Silk Road in autumn. It seems that despite the hardships, there are still moments of refreshment.
Arrived in Gilgit: The Gilgit manuscript , including Dharma flower sutra, Bhaisajyaguru Sutra and etc dated back to 5-6AD, is archeological verified as the oldest Buddhism scripture Gilgit is an important city on the Silk Road, where Buddhism spread from South Asia to other parts of Asia via this route. Took a photo with Dr. Yong and the bridge.
It is considered a Buddhism corridor, along which many Chinese monks came to Kashmir, to learn and to preach Buddhism. Our group member Ali and Yin was shopping in bazaar.
Two famous Chinese Buddhist pilgrims, Faxian, Xuanzang,Song Yun and etc, traversed Gilgit, according to their accounts. Our group member Magdeline was bargaining in bazaar. Photo with the passer-by who are curious over my cloth.

Gilgit: Napura Buddha

Tried a traditional Hunza meal, seated on the floor. The homes are built to withstand the harsh winters. Hunza is close to China, which explains why we saw dumplings. The tradition of hosting Silk Road merchants in homes also explains why great masters like Xuanzang didn’t need to book Airbnb online to stay for extended periods.
During the journey, we had a chance encounter with tourists from Karachi, and were invited to have tea and take photos. This reminds me of how monks like Xuanzang might have become “celebrities” in their time due to their distinctive attire. Their appearance and actions not only attracted attention from people around them but also served as a bridge for cultural exchange. Such interactions, both in ancient times and today, are filled with fascinating connections and cultural collisions.
